7 Nights / 8 Days Guided Package
This leisurely 7-night/8-day package explores the three Biospheres of Limpopo. It includes the Waterberg, Vhembe and the Kruger to Canyon Biospheres, as well as the magical Blouberg with its incredible rock art. The package includes overnight stays in two national parks, Makgabeng Farm Lodge (4-star graded) and the Fair Trade Tourism certified Kololo Game Reserve. The package starts in Gauteng and ends in Phalaborwa and is fully guided and catered.
Day 1: OR Tambo International Airport to Kololo Game Reserve
Your guide picks you up at OR Tambo International Airport from where we travel to Vaalwater along the N1 north.
We have lunch in Modimolle before heading out to Vaalwater and Kololo Game Reserve. Kololo Game Reserce is Fair Trade Tourism certified and is home to a large variety of game. Partially integrated into Welgevonden Game Reserve, Kololo offers the Big 5 experience in combination with accommodation in a luxurious lodge where only the safe wildlife roams free. The private gate near the reception offers direct access into Welgevonden Game Reserve. Discover the wildlife from the comfort of your private terrace, enjoy a drink on one of the viewing decks in the restaurant with beautiful views on the Big 5 area.
We join the afternoon game drive, and then have a lovely dinner in the restaurant.
Day 2: Kololo and Welgevonden Game Reserve
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and the morning at leisure – either partake in one of the activities available at Kololo (own account) or relax at the swimming pool. Lunch is served in the restaurant or by the pool side (own account).
In the afternoon, we join a game drive into the Big 5 Welgevonden Game Reserve. Your Game Drive into Welgevonden is led by an experienced and qualified guide that will take you into the Southern part of Welgevonden Game Reserve which is mostly open grassland with mountain streams and waterholes. You will find a lot of animals that like to eat grass (grazers), there is also an abundance of Elephant and a good chance of seeing lion and cheetah. Of course there is no fence in the Welgevonden Game Reserve and the animals can come and go as they like and you never know what you might see. Halfway during your Game Drive Welgevonden we stop for some drinks and snacks. If you are lucky the beautiful Blue Crane Bird can also be spotted while you are enjoying your stop. Dinner is served at Kololo Game Reserve upon our return.
Day 3: Kololo to Makgabeng
Enjoy an early morning bush walk before having breakfast at Kololo Game Reserve. After checking out, we head to the Makgabeng and Blouberg. Famous for its ancient Rock Art paintings dating back to the first African ancestors to ever inhabit and walk on the African landscape, the Makgabeng Plateau flaunts an interesting history that is better experienced first-hand.
We find lunch along the road (own account) before heading to our meeting with a guide that will interpret the amazing rock art in the area for us.
After our tour we check in and have dinner at the 4-star graded Makgabeng Farm Lodge.
Day 4: Makgabeng to Mapungubwe
We depart Makgabeng Farm Lodge after breakfast, and head towards Mapungubwe, where a sumptuous lunch awaits us, prepared by the private chef that will accompany us for the next few days.
We check in and spend a leisurely afternoon in camp before joining the sunset drive to explore the park.
We have dinner under the stars prepared by our private chef, including local wine and beer.
Day 5: Mapungubwe
We spend the day exploring the Mapungubwe National Park. An early morning game drive provides an opportunity to see the local wildlife and birds, and there is also a chance to take a walk among the riverine forest on a raised canopy walk that takes you to a hide overlooking the Limpopo River.
Later in the day we participate in a guided walk of the Mapungubwe heritage site and visitors are provided with an overview of the history of the historic trader kingdom.
Our private chef provides our meals, including local wine and spirits.
Day 6: Mapungubwe to Kruger National Park
Depart Mapungubwe after an early breakfast.
We travel to Kruger National Park via Musina and visit the Sagole baobab en route to the Pafuri gate of the world famous Kruger National Park. Entering the Park, we have an opportunity to see a variety of game, including the possibility of the Big 5, though nothing is guaranteed!
We have lunch at the Babalala picnic spot, prepared by our private chef, before continuing to Shingwedzi, where we check into our accommodation for the night. Before sunset we take a last drive along the river towards the Kanniedood dam and return to camp for a scrumptious dinner under the stars, with local wine and beers.
Day 7: Shingwedzi to Letaba
We depart Shingwedzi early after enjoying coffee and rusks, and travel along the Red Rocks loop towards Mopani Camp. We stop at Mopani for refreshments and a toilet break before continuing to the Mooiplaas picnic spot for brunch, prepared by our private chef. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Mooiplaas – overlooking the Tsendse river – for some time before continuing our journey to Letaba via the Tsendse loop.
We arrive at Letaba in the afternoon, and visit the Letaba Elephant Hall, where the tusks of Kruger’s iconic elephants are displayed. We check in to our accommodation for the night and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing with a view across the Letaba River.
Late afternoon we depart on a night drive to experience Kruger National Park at night and to see a few animals and birds that are not normally active during the day-time. Our private chef has dinner ready upon our return.
Day 8: Letaba to Phalaborwa
We start early with a game drive, and return to camp for breakfast, which is prepared for us by our chef.
